Col. Aquila Hall Chapter Meeting

There will be a Colonel Aquila Hall Chapter SAR Meeting on Sunday April 17, 2016 at 2PM at the Smithson House in Darlington, Maryland.

 

There will be an Agenda for the meeting and swearing both new members and the new officers for the 2016-2017 year.

 

All members are asked to attend.  Business casual dress is preferred.

General William Smallwood Memorial Service

The Thomas Stone Chapter MSSAR is extending an invitation to all Maryland chapters of the NSSAR to participate in a memorial service for General William Smallwood at his home located in Smallwood State Park on the 28th of May 2016 at 10:30 A.M.

The memorial service will be conducted overlooking the burial site. It will be the first commemoration in several years for General Smallwood, with the hope that this will become an annual event.

2016 Annual Meeting

The 2016  Annual Meeting of the Maryland Society will be held on Saturday, April 16th at the American Legion Post 47 in Havre de Grace, Maryland. There will be a wreath laying ceremonyat 11:45 a.m. at the statue of General Lafayette near the American Legion Post.  The details of the events will be forthcoming in early March when the invitation is sent. 

MARYLAND SAR CONTRIBUTIONS TOTAL $20,000 TO STATE ARCHIVES FOR MD 400 RESEARCH

The Maryland Society of the Sons of the American Revolution has undertaken a huge project to research the biographies of the men of the Col. William Smallwood’s Battalion that left Maryland in July 1776 and headed to New York to help save Washington’s Army. A smaller group of this Brigade became known as the Maryland 400 for their heroic stand, later giving Maryland the moniker of the Old Line State and which is annually celebrated in New York with a weeklong series of events.

 

John Eager Howard Chapter Makes Donations to CAR

The Col. John Eager Howard Chapter presented two checks to the C.A.R. for their 2016 activities today.  At the Nov 7th and Jan. 30th Meetings, the JEH Chapter voted to contribute to the C.A.R.’s objectives. The mission of the National SAR encourages each SAR Chapter to support a local Chapter of the C.A.R. and the JEH Chapter approved a donation of $100 at its November 7th meeting to the Thomas Johnson Society which serves the Baltimore area. Accepting on their behalf, the Thomas Johnson C.A.R.
