On Friday April 13th Past Presidents David W. Hoover and C. Louis Raborg Jr. presented a wreath on behalf of the Maryland Society at The Jefferson Memorial commemorating the anniversary of Jefferson's 275th birth. President General Larry Guzy also attended and presented a wreath on behalf of the National Society. It was a beautiful day and the Cherry Blossoms were in full bloom. Many of the Ladies of the National Society DAR and 1812 Society were also in attendance.
The Christian Ardinger Chapter and the Boonsboro Historical Society will be holding a monument dedication ceremony at Washington Monument State Park. All MDSSAR members and friends are welcome, and those contributing in the entertainment by appearing in colonial dress are invited to a luncheon immediately after the event(although limited space is available due to a large number of dignitaries attending, ceremony participants will be given first preference).
We are looking to recruit more Color Guard for both SAR and 1812. We are looking for a November meeting maybe Sat Nov. 5th in Savage, MD area. Details to follow. Those who are interested should reply to David Embrey and let him know if you would be able to make this event. Dave would like to know what type of uniform you would like to wear (1812 or SAR) and style (militia, regulars, etc.) and if you can make a meeting on that date in Savage area. Once he gets a few people interested he will confirm exact time and location.
On June 5th at 10am, the Col. John Eager Howard Chapter is holding its Annual Memorial at the Old St. Paul’s Cemetery. With all the work the DAR has been doing to clean up the cemetery, we expect to see a greatly improved cemetery since our last memorial there two years ago. We will be there to honor our Chapter Namesake as well as the other Patriots including Signer of the Declaration of Independence Samuel Chase who are buried at this historic cemetery.
