Just wanted to give an update on Brooklyn Days 2018 Battle of Brooklyn-Maryland 400 Commemoration date and progress...
On August 25, 2018, the Friends of Garrett Park, Brooklyn, MD plan to commemorate the Battle of Brooklyn and Maryland 400. History tells us this is when the Maryland 400 helped save President George Washington’s life in the historic Battle of Brooklyn, New York. This was a significant time in our nation’s history and I believe we have the chance to reinstate both Civic and State pride with this event.
Our goal is to commemorate this weekend as the landmark to planning for the resurrection of Brooklyn Day as an annual occasion to restore Brooklyn to its former glory. We intend to host a parade and a series of events open to local vendors, musicians, pipe bands, reenactors, artists, and performers. Other events on Saturday would include local Brooklyn lore and history, crabs, crafts, games and an Irish Music Session from 12-3pm on Sunday at our community space, Ó Flynn´s Crab and Cask House.
The Friends of Garrett Park has already submitted an Event Request to the Baltimore City Parks & Recreation Department. We have been in contact with the Maryland Historical Trust. Please help spread the word and network any interested organizations.
Happy New Year,
