The Maryland Society Sons of the American Revolution (MDSSAR) is very pleased to report the finding and return of a very old relic of our early society. Our State Society is now 125 Years old founded in 1889 and a large framed autographed photograph of the Officers of the 1901-1902 State Board was returned to Maryland after being found in a trash heap in NC ready to be disposed of for eternity. Larry Baily of Cary NC was dropping off refuse when he noticed a large frame picture standing to the side with a group of men in business suits.
The Little Meadows Chapter will be holding their chapter meeting at Perkins Restaurant in McHenry, MD. The meeting will be on June 21, 2014 at 1:00 pm. All are invited.
A beautifully framed replica of Rembrandt Peale’s “porthole” portrait of George Washington now greets the students of Our Lady of Hope / St. Luke School thanks to the generosity of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) and the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association (MVLA).
While some of us were attending the meeting of the MDSSAR Board of Officers and Managers on the 31st, other Maryland Compatriots were representing the Maryland Society at a ceremony at the historic Congressional Cemetery in Washington, DC. The Westminster Chapter SAR will be hosting a Genealogy Workshop at Mount Airy Public Library, Saturday 21 June 2014 from 10 AM to noon. Presented by the Carrollton Manor DAR, the event is open to the public. All chapter registrars, especially those in the western counties, are encouraged to attend this event and ask questions that can help them in the roles in their chapter. The event is free.
