The State Society Lifetime Service Medal may be awarded to SAR members who have rendered long, faithful and meritorious service to the State Society that cumulatively impacted the State Society. The lifetime service rendered should be stated in the citation. A Compatriot may receive this medal only once from the Maryland State Society. A nominee must have a minimum of fifteen years of active and distinguished service to the State Society. He must have served at least ten years in a State Society elective office (VPG, President, VP, Trustee, Alternate Trustee or other officer); as well as having served five years as a Committee Chairman/Vice Chairman or Officer for an additional three years and served as a chapter officer or chairman for ten years, for a total of a minimum of twenty five years of service. An additional ten years of service will include five years as a chapter officer and five years as a chapter chairman. Three years of national service as a national officer can be substituted for service as a state or chapter officer. Three years as a national chairman can be substituted for a state or chapter chairman. Additional state service can be substituted for chapter service on a year per year basis. This means that all twenty five years of service can be served at the state level. Total service must be a minimum of twenty five years. All requirements should be thoroughly reviewed before making the nomination.
